Video Calibration 101: Getting Started

Display calibration is the process of adjusting an HDTV's picture controls in order to produce a faithful, accurate representation of the source video signal. Out of the box, TV's are configured to grab your attention with overSave & Closely saturated colors and the brightest possible picture - sacrificing color accuracy and picture detail. The above video is part one from a series that Patrick Norton and I recorded for HD Nation. I'll post part two and the rest in the coming days.
One of the free calibration tools mentioned in this video is the AVS HD 709 test pattern disc - link goes to the official information/download page.
The other excellent HD calibration discs mentioned in this video are:
- Spears & Munsil High-Definition Benchmark
- Joe Kane's Digital Video Essentials: HD Basics
- And, Disney WoW: World of Wonder
The latter two include a red/green/blue (RGB) color filter that is useful for performing accurate color and hue (tint) picture adjustments that we'll cover in an upcoming part of this series.

Robert.Have you started a new folding team yet. Just started my back up hard drive a few weeks ago, folding@home was still running as a service, :) but dl.tv (57391) is a dead team? I'm still folding but once i get a new Femi card 4-x-mas i'll be looking for a new team.
So flex some Internet muscle and start a new team soon.
@chevy Not yet, but your note is encouraging me to get the ball rolling with a new team. Hmmm...maybe a Rev3 team or Heron Fidelity team???
